Hope House - Mexico

How it All Started.

Selecting Hope House in Mexico was an easy decision.  It was local, we knew the founders, and we offered our services to help however we could from its inception.  We helped in the woodshop, built an aquaponics system and a large greenhouse.  We worked with the founders to remodel the kitchen, built bookshelves, whatever we could do.  A need to provide a potential direct not-for-profit funding conduit became very evident.  On that basis we decided we would launch HHCR and see where we could go from there.

Background of Hope House in Mexico

In 1995 Rodney and Kina Dutro believed God was leading them to serve in the mission field but did not know exactly where.  Over the next few years they served in several places; teaching English as a second language in Hong Kong, traveling to India to document a children’s home and leading many short-term mission teams to Mexico.  What they experienced on these travels transformed their lives and left them with a passion to serve God and provide an answer to the cries of poverty and hopelessness they encountered.

In 2002, in obedience to God’s calling, they moved to Mexico as full-time missionaries. Living among the people in a small “pueblo” they began to learn the language and culture of rural Mexico. For years they assisted poor families through a Sponsor-A-Child program which allowed children living in poverty to have nourishing meals, receive an education and medical care. The program also offered emergency financial assistance to families, Bible studies, English classes and practical infant care seminars.

Over the years Rodney and Kina co-labored with many churches, ministries and missionaries both in the United States and Mexico to help meet the spiritual and physical needs of the poor and destitute. By offering outreach opportunities to groups, families and individuals, Rodney and Kina have helped increase awareness and turn hearts toward the underprivileged. In 2008, after years of hard work a great dream was realized when Rodney and Kina founded Hope House, a home for abused, abandoned and neglected boys ages 8 to 18.

Hope House provides these boys with love, security, shelter and food.  In addition to these basics, the boys also have the opportunity to know Jesus Christ, receive an education, and learn English, Art, Music and Carpentry through classes provided at the facility.  Through significant donations Hope House has a wood shop and a large aquaponics agricultural center, for life skills and vocational training. The intent of the vocational opportunities is to prepare the boys for when they leave the home at age 18, equipped to enter the workplace with the tools necessary to succeed and live independently.  Rodney and Kina praise God for the ministry He has given them and allowing them to spread the love of Christ "to the least of these." Matthew 25:40.
